Tomorrow, November 125, 2012, the whole Muslim world will be celebrating the Amun Jadid or the Islamic New Year. The day corresponds to the First Day of Muharram 1434 Hijrah Calendar, according to a letter from National Commission on Muslim Filipinos‘ Field Director Guialil Kanda.
As such, it is recognized as a Muslim Legal Holiday in the country by virtue of Article 169, 170 and 172 under Presidential Decree No. 1083, otherwise known as the Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines and Civil Service Commission Resolution No. 81-1277, dated November 13, 1981.
This has led General Santos City Mayor Darlene Magnolia Antonino-Custodio to send out a memorandum dated November 14, 2012 which exempts all employees of the City Government from work tomorrow.
However, according to the memo, “due to the exigency of services, all employees scheduled to report for duty on the aforementioned date at the City District Hospital, Central Public Market, Delta 9, Slaughter House, Task Force Kalinisan, Kagandahan GenSan, and Traffic Enforcement shall report to work and perform their regular functions.“
