If you have noticed lately, browounts not only happen daily but longer at that.
According to SOCOTECO 2, this is due to the Preventive Maintenance Shutdown for the STEAG State Power Inc. (SPI) Mindanao Coal Fire-Powered Plant’s two electric generation units from October 6, 2012 to November 10, 2012.
SPI’s power plant is considered the biggest and most modern in Mindanao Island on a per unit capacity. It has already delivered more than 8.3 billion kilowatt hours (kwh) of electricity representing about 20% of Mindanao’s total power supply.
Due to its preventive maintenance shutdown, there will be a shortfall in the delivery of electricity to Mindanao’s electric cooperatives, including SOCOTECO II… and thus, the 2.5 hours daily brownouts that GenSan is undergoing now.
