Perya - Carnival
Perya (Spanish for fair or circus) is the Filipino slang for small carnivals that are set up during fiestas. When going to the perya, one will find the traditional rides like the carousel and Ferris wheel, popcorn and cotton candy stands, a shooting gallery, and the occasional side shows that exploit people with disabilities and abnormalities (referred to as "freak shows").
The perya is part of the Filipino subculture that most people now take for granted. Although it is still part of many fiestas it looks like a lot of people have lost interest in the traditional perya. They are now mostly small and only a few attractions can be found. Most of the perya operators don’t earn much money.
